NEWS RELEASE (95-114) October 5, 1995 Steven Pennoyer 4:05 p.m. 907-586-7221 For Immediate Release NMFS CLOSES DIRECTED FISHING FOR YELLOWFIN SOLE BY VESSELS USING TRAWL GEAR IN THE BERING SEA AND ALEUTIAN ISLANDS MANAGEMENT AREA The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is closing the directed fishery for yellowfin sole by vessels using trawl gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, October 8, 1995, according to Steven Pennoyer, Director, Alaska Region, NMFS. This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 1995 bycatch allowance of Pacific halibut apportioned to the trawl yellowfin sole fishery in the BSAI. After the effective date of this closure the maximum retainable bycatch amounts at 50 CFR 675.20(h) apply at any time during a trip. This press release provides notice that a regulatory change has occurred. Do not rely upon it to guide you in complying with the regulatory change.
