INFORMATION BULLETIN 02-02 Sustainable Fisheries Division 907-586-7228 January 8, 2002 2:20 p.m. NMFS IMPLEMENTS EMERGENCY RULE ESTABLISHING 2002 STELLER SEA LION PROTECTION MEASURES AND GROUNDFISH HARVEST SPECIFICATIONS The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has issued an emergency rule implementing changes to the 2002 Alaska groundfish fisheries that are determined necessary by NMFS to protect endangered Steller sea lions. The emergency rule also establishes 2002 harvest specifications for the federally managed groundfish fisheries off Alaska and was effective January 1, 2002, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS. The published text and tables of the emergency rule are available on the NMFS, Alaska Region website at http://www.fakr.noaa.gov/frules/ssltacer.pdf. This information bulletin provides notice of a regulatory change. For the purposes of complying with the regulatory change, you are advised to see the actual text in the Code of Federal Regulations.
